Janie H. Mayes Paris, 87, of Owensboro, Kentucky passed away peacefully, on March 25, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 9, 1936, in Muhlenberg County, KY, to the late James “Jim” Mayes and the late Mary (Uzzle) Mayes Higgs.

Mrs. Paris was an active member of Metro Pentecostal Church. Her passion was living for God, going to church, and reading her Bible. She retired from GE later to also retire as Cashier Supervisor for Kmart. Janie loved spending time with her family and her dog, Ladybug.

Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Paris, three sisters, Carolyn Basham, Judy Hamilton, and Mary Kay Jackson, and one brother, Jerry Higgs.

Those left to cherish Janie’s memory are her children, Debbie (Randall Jones) Ferguson-Jones, Sheila (Doyle) Blanchard, Mark A. (Becky) Paris, and Cindy (Danny) Goodwin, and four siblings, Nancy Edmonson, Gary Higgs, Frances Autry, and Pam Lewis. She was blessed with 9 grandchildren, Joshua, Summer, Ashley, Rick, Jenny, Kevin, Katie, Jason, and Jamie; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30am, on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Metro Pentecostal Church in Masonville. Pastor Bill Huff will be officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Haley McGinnis Funeral & Crematory, and again on Friday, March 29, 2024, from 8:30AM until time of service, at Metro Pentecostal Church.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Janie Paris Memorial Fund; c/o Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory; 519 Locust Street; Owensboro, Kentucky 42301. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

  6. As a child growing up I remember Sister Janie’s mother and brother and sister’s. When I received the Holy Ghost I worshipped with her and family many times. I am sad at her passing, but rejoice knowing her life. There are many members that makes up the Bride of Jesus. Janie was one such member. To the family, only Jesus can wipe away the hurt and tears. My the communion of the Holy Ghost be with you all. Amen.

A true friend to everyone < I have never met a more kind and loving person that the spirit of the Lord poured out to everyone, I worked with Janie at Kmart and enjoyed her loving spirit for the time we worked together, she will be missed in this world but I know the Lord welcomed her home, I am so sorry for your loss, Martha Hagan
