Delmar Owen Sosh, 79, of Utica, passed away, Friday, May 12, 2023, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born April 18, 1944, in Daviess County, KY to the late Woodie and Alice Margaret (Coin) Sosh. Delmar was of Pentecostal faith and a retired coal miner. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and woodworking. He believed taking care of his family was his purpose in life and lived it out every day.

Aside from his parents, he was preceded by his wife Betty Frances (Mitchell) Sosh, one son, Gregory Sosh, one granddaughter, Natalie Trogdon, eight siblings and their spouses, Marlena, Grover, James “Sluggo” (Joyce), Donald “Bones”, Orville “Snake” (Kim), Larry “Jinks”, Sherman “Buggyman” (Helen “Sis”), George Sosh Sr., and Ruby (Buddy).

Survivors include two children, Delena Trogdon, and Randy (Sherry) Sosh; two sisters, Nelda Sosh and Reva Dean (Jack Mooneyham), sister-in-law, Darlene. Delmar was blessed with five grandchildren, Brandon (Melissa) Trogdon, Tina Sosh, Tonya (Steve) Barr, Ryan (Angela) Sosh, and Nathan Sosh; and six great-grandchildren, Sadie Trogdon, Brantley Trogdon, Easton Trogdon, Kaidyn Barr, Owen Barr, and Jude Sosh.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory. Entombment will be in Rosehill-Elmwood Cemetery in Owensboro. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 PM, Tuesday and 9 AM until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

  1. He was a great man to be with. I had some great times visiting with him. I wish I had more time to get to know him. I am very grateful for the 5 years that I had with him. He was fun to spend time with, and I am going to miss him.

  9. I can’t tell you how hard your passing is not only on me but everyone who knew you. So many times you were there for me in my darkest hours. And always blessed to get a hug from you everytime we would see each other. Our joke among each other of always checking for tied shoes or slip on. I will miss you dearly.

  10. Uncle Delmar was like the glue that held family together, wasn’t he. I’ll always remember that time he came and sat with us in the emergency room when my Dad was there. And that time he caught me being nice to somebody. He grinned and said something like, “I know what you did. And I’m okay with that.”

I will always cherish every time and moment that I had with my awesome UNCLE DELMAR,,he is the man that I have ever known,,and in my heart and mind he will always be here with me,,I’m gonna miss him so much he came to my house many many times and sat on the couch and I wanted him to sit in my seat,but he was always fine he said,,,and that’s the kind of man he is,,,not was,,always and forever,,,with love,,I will miss the backbone of our family

  16. Delmar was a great mentor to me at Green Coal Company. I will always be grateful for his patience and support during my time working with him. He was a great man and leader and will surely be missed. I will never forget all that he had done for me.

  18. My heart is broken and it is hard to find the words to express how much I love him and all he is to me. He was the rock of the family and things feel untethered without him there. He raised such a fine man in Randy and Delena, of course, forever has my heart. His capacity for love was immense and we all got to benefit from having that in our lives.
